Founded in 2023, your husband & wife Amina and James work across UK and Europe, platforming what society perceives as strange. “ajeeb” derives from the Urdu word meaning weird or wonderful. We aim to use our platform in the arts to bring change, joy and unity.

Amina Aaliya Beg
Amina Aaliya Beg is a co-founder of ajeeb studios and multi-disciplinary artist, writer, DJ and facilitator. Amina aims to use her platform in the arts to change the social and political discourse framed around representation for Muslim women. She has been part of BFI Film Hub North Writers Programme. She has performed ‘My Mum Told Me Not To Marry An Atheist’ (2025) and ‘Sohni’ (2021) at the Edinburgh Fringe. Amina has written for Kali Theatres Leicester Curve Theatre ‘Hope New Mill’ (2024). She has written, directed and produced her short film ‘Daytimers’ (2024) which has been screened at Contact Theatre, Longsight Community Centre and Gunnersbury Park Museum.

James Baker
James Baker is an architect in training, intern at Sadiq & Polack. He is also a drummer and set designer who has worked for clients like Six By Nico, Contact Theatre, The Mash House. He is passionate about social architecture and has facilitated architectural upcycling and gardening workshops at Intercultural Youth Scotland (IYS) in Edinburgh.
