Mohammad Naseem Haqqani, an 88-year-old multidisciplinary artist whose life and work span India, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and the UK, explores the world through writing, music, perfume-making and visual art. His exhibition Hard Talking To You, curated by ajeeb studios in collaboration with Richard Street Studios, showcases his vast practice and distinct worldview. Alongside the exhibition, participants can engage with creative workshops through writing, drawing, and discussion, exploring intergenerational perspectives and the role of elders in community life.

ajeeb studios is partnering with Swap Don’t Shop at the University of York to host a crash course into upcycling pre-existing garments, learning patch-making, fabric painting and mending old clothes using hand-sewing techniques.

Ajeeb festival
This event was ajeeb studios first festival featuring 7 acts with an art exhibition featuring Sophie Misslin's paintings and sculptures. This festival had a mixture of poetry by Zainab Imran followed by musical performances by Canongate, Nikhita, Hot Organs, LaTex, James Baker, Young Lenny and DJ set by aminabonthebeat.

Henna workshop
Talbot Rice Gallery invited ajeeb studios to host a henna workshop inspired by the Wael Shawky exhibition. ajeeb studios invited participants to design their own puppets in response to Wael Shawky’s work in telling your own stories using henna as the creative medium.

Daytimers film launch
Daytimers was a film screening followed by a Q&A hosted by founder of MSJI (Muslim Social Justice Iniative) Hamza Rana, culminating in a daytime rave with a female line up of South Asian DJs. This event was supported by Girl Dreamer and ran in collaboration with Honey Mango Kitchen, Huqthat and MSJI.

Upcycling workshop
This event was a crash course into upcycling clothes co-hosted by our co-founder Amina Beg and textile artist Claire-Johns Perring. The crash course turned into a fashion show celebrating the clothes the participants made. This event was supported by IPOW (In Place of war).

Palestine fundraiser
This event was in collaboration with the National Trust (Viaduct), catering by Honey Mango Kitchen and musical performances by Ntombizodwa, Ludwik Lipiec and James Baker. Followed by DJ sets by Nykira, aminabonthebeat and Sheri. All ticket proceeds were donated to Medical Aid for Palestine.

Bazaar
This event featured an exhibition by Morven MacKinnon, zine-making workshop teaching participants to tell their own stories and celebrate what it means to be ‘ajeeb’ deriving from the ethos of the collective and Urdu word meaning strange, weird or wonderful. This event ended with a DJ set with co-founder and DJ aminabonthebeat.
